Why do guys say "we can be friends", but act like their is more?

I dated this guy for 3 months, and he said we could just be friends, and has a new girlfriend. He just recently got a new cell phone, and his brother just jokingly said, Can Daphne have your number"? and he got all excited, and was all ready to give it to me and his brother said, nah, she just wanted to see if you'd give it to her. We haven't talked in almost 1 month, and for him to react like he did, makes me wonder if he is really happy. His new girlfriend is real mean to him, and doesn't do anything for him but spend his money. Should I be excited he wanted to give me his number???

Should I really ask for it again?????Or just let it go and move on knowing he still might care and it is his loss????

I think some guys use the "we can be friends" thing to have their cake and eat it too. Sometimes i think it's a way of holding on to you just in case this one don't work out. And no! i wouldn't ask for that number because chances are he's waiting for you to ask. I'm sure he wants you to have it but he don't want you to take it the wrong way. I would just move on because chances are when you do and act like you don't care and start dating someone else he's probably gonna realize he's made a mistake and call you because more than likely he don't wanna see you with anyone else friend! Yeah right!
Reply:This guy had three months to make you his girl he didnt. He only wanted to be your friend.He is in a relationship and has not tried to contact you since he has been with this girl. Dont try to get his number if he wanted you to have it he would have given it to you himself. If he isnt happy in the relationship he would have ended things by now and it doesnt mean he would start a relationship with you if he did. I am sure you are seeing things one sided right now his girlfriend might be a good person if you knew her.Move on and find someone new. Maybe once he see you with someone else that might make him think a little.

Reply:well if you still really want to be with him and he wants to be friends then you SHOULD be friends...if he is really unhappy without you he will end up with you again...but you need to start hanging out with him first so he knows you don't want to completely shut him out of your life
