The book by Daphne Du Maurier.
Can someone tell me what the setting for Rebecca is?
This explains it all

Reply:Manderley is a fictional house which plays a central part in Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel, Rebecca, and in the film adaptation by Alfred Hitchcock. No location is specified for the house, but it is assumed to be in Cornwall, where du Maurier herself lived.
edit: she works with someone vacationing French Riveria.

Reply:Rebecca's setting was present-day...for Daphne Du Maurier, who began to write it in 1937. The narrative actually begins on an unspecified "indifferent island" as the second Mrs. de Winter recounts her original dream. Then she begins to tell her story which starts in Monte Carlo where she first met Maxim while a companion to Mrs. Van Hopper. By the way, have you noticed that the second Mrs. de Winter's first name is NEVER given? Next the story moves to Cornwall - the setting for the fictional Manderley.
