Reply:Achilles?
Reply:I'm not sure arachne was actually *against* the gods, i thought she beat Athena in a weaving contest so Athena got pissed that a mortal defeated her.
what about Hercules? he was against the gods quite a bit but he seemed to get special treatment because of his father being Zeus and all.
Reply:I thought Echo was a nymph, not mortal. Echo had been told by Zeus to trick Hera into thinking he was else where, when he was really cheating on Hera in a different location. Echo had Hera chase a woodpecker, telling her that it was Zeus. When she discovered it was a real woodpecker and not her husband, she punished Echo by making her invisible and limiting her speech only to repeating what other people said first.
Arachne was such a skilled weaver that she bragged aloud that she was better than Athena. Athena, hearing this, came down to earth diguised as an old woman and warned her not to brag against the gods. She instead challenged Athena to a contest. Arachne won, and Athena would have accepted defeat expect that Arachne had woven a tapastry depicting the transgressions of the gods. Athena destroyed hr tapestry and hit her other the head. Anachne ran in shame and hung herself. Then, Athena look pity on her and turned her into a spider.
Idas loved Marpessa and kidnapped her. Problem was, Apollo loved her, too. Zeus forced Marpessa to choose between the two. She rejected Apollo. I'm not sure if there was any punishment.
Daphne was also a nymph who was pursue by Apollo. His infatuation was caused by Eros's (Cupid's) arrow. Eros had done it because Apollo had made fun of his archery skills, and he claimed Apollo's singing annoyed him. He had also struck Daphne with an arrow that caused her to hate love and marriage. Daphne prayed to Peneus the river god to help her and he turned her into a laurel tree.
