this question is stupid, but i just have to put it out there. it seems like there's 2 different "cliques" of indie music...
the first is like arcade fire, the shins, the decemberists, rilo kiley, broken social scene, iron %26amp; wine, death cab, bright eyes, architecture in helsinki, etc. all great bands, though often times it seems like some of the people who like these bands are kinda elitist and i get this sorta "holier-than-thou" attitude from them.
the second is the, uh, pseudo-indie (considered by some). like daphne loves derby, copeland, the early november, brand new, straylight run, the starting line, say anything. and some of the people from group 1 are always complaining that these bands aren't actually indie when some of the bands they like (i.e. death cab, rilo kiley) aren't even on independent labels either. and then everyone gets rude and mad.
i'm generalizing a bit here, but yeah, i see stuff like this a lot.
i have too much time on my hands to think about all this? yup.
Have you noticed that it seems like there's 2 "cliques" of indie music?
Good point!
Reply:I kinda see what you're saying. But um, I like some of the bands from both groups? =P
It does seem like that some of the people here can be elitist and very unfairly critical of other people's tastes in music.
Reply:I see what you mean. I just listen to whatever I want though, it just happens that a lot of those bands are "indie".
Reply:classifying a band based on it sounding like a band that records on an independent label?
Stupidest genre name since alternative.
Reply:Good point.I do see where your coming. That is very true
Reply:Haha. I TOTALLY know what you mean.
:]
Reply:Good point there!
