Okay so I am in love with artists and bands like Fiest, Alanis Morissette, Tegan and Sara, Dashboard Confessional, Daphne loves Derby, Motion City Soundtrack, Cartel, Conor Oburst [Bright Eyes], Taking Back Sunday, Just Jack, The Scene Aesthetic and tons of others....I am really looking for more bands like these with a soft/quirky/fun sound. I'd appreciate the help!
Indie and Acoustic music anyone?
If you like Tegan And Sara, you will definitely enjoy Meg %26amp; Dia. What I love about this band is that most of their songs are based on books. For example, East Of Eden inspired their song "Monster," and Mary by Vladimir Nabokov inspired "Tell Mary." I really like the song "Cardigan Weather." It's about a girl who poisons her boyfriend and then sews him into a mattress after she finds out that he's been cheating on her. It's a bit morbid but it' s a good song. Also check out their songs "Courage, Robert" and "Roses."
The Like is great too. They've put out several EPs plus one album, and they're recording a new album right now, which should be released some time next year. My favorite songs are "June Gloom" and "Mrs. Actually," but the whole album is pretty solid. I saw them open for Muse a while ago, and they were amazing live, so if you ever get the chance to see them, do it.
If you're into electronica, check out The Birthday Massacre. The lyrics are a bit dark, but the music itself is a lot of fun, it sounds almost video game-inspired. Check out "Violet," "Unfamiliar," and "Kill The Lights."
A Fine Frenzy is somewhat similar to Feist. She just released her first album, One Cell In The Sea, earlier this year. It's really good, I definitely recommend it. Listen to the songs "Lifesize," "Almost Lover," and "Hope For The Hopeless."
Also check out these bands...
Self Against City, Armor For Sleep, Copeland, Halifax, Dear And The Headlights, The Spill Canvas, Straylight Run, Mae, Hidden In Plain View, The Rocket Summer, and Anberlin. =]
