Know any good Indie bands?
Hey! I'll list a few Aussie indie bands that come to mind. All of these have been taken from the latest Triple J Hottest 100 countdown, which is actually the biggest radio poll in the world with over 700,000 votes this year. So you know these bands are actually good, because Australia voted for them! I've included a bit of info about them as well, check em out:

Birds Of Tokyo

From Perth in Western Australia, alternative / rock style music. Reached #61 in the Hottest 100, have a listen to their song "Wayside."

Faker

#5 in the Hottest 100 for the song "This Heart Attack." Also check out "Hurricane" from a few years ago. Indie rock band with catchy pop/guitar tunes.

The Beautiful Girls

Blues/Roots band with a similar style to Ben Harper. They released an album last year called Ziggurats - choice songs off it are "Thought About You" and "Under A Southern Sky." Peaked at #38 in the Hottest 100.

Angus %26amp; Julia Stone

Brother / sister duo from Sydney, kinda similar to Tegan %26amp; Sara, though a little softer. Reached #31, best songs to listen to are "The Beast" and "Wasted."

The Waifs

Acoustic folk band from Perth. One of my favourite bands of all time - you really do have to check these guys out. "Sun Dirt Water" is the main single from their latest album, which got to #92 in the Hottest 100, but have a listen to "London Still" or "Bridal Train" from a few years back. Absolutely amazing.

Muscles

This guy is a little bit different, he's kinda techno/dance/electronic but he still has a rock edge. "Ice Cream" and "Sweaty" were the two tracks to feature in the Hottest 100, peaking at #14, the same number as his album peaked in the ARIA charts.

John Butler Trio

The ULTIMATE in Australian indie bands!!! Admittedly their last album was more on the commercial side, but they put out an unsurpassed blues/roots sound that will have your hands up in the air shouting for more. Reached #4 in the Hottest 100 - check out "Better Than," "Zebra," or "Funky Tonight."

I really hope you check some of these bands out - do yourself a favour and see what us Aussies are capable of!
