I have a copy of Daphne Du Maurier's "Jamaica Inn." Originally printed in 1936, by my copy is a 1944 reprint. My sister bought it at an estate sale for me 15 years ago. I've only been able to read it once, the paper it was printed on is very brittle and crumble's when handled. But I was wondering how much, if anything, one of these might be valued at? Especially if it were in mint condition. Anyone know where I could look. I've done an on-line search.
Where can I find out how much this book would be worth?
Abebooks would give you an idea. I think you may get $11 for it, according to the sellers there - if it was in good condition which by the sound of it isn't.
Reply:Since it's not at all in mint condition, it's not worth anything I'd say... you can't even read it because the pages have not been cared for.
A collector of books will have the books sealed against both air and dust, which are 'lethal' to keeping a book in mint condition.
I keep my books in a pantry that I've put long shelves in and now call the book nook... but the best part of it is that I don't open it often and those paperbacks will last a bit longer because there is very little dust or new air in there.
But my books are not at all collectors' items. I just want them to last as long as I do.
;-}
I think that a 1944 reprint, even in mint condition, will also not be worth a great deal, as that is pretty recent, and is a reprint, etc.
But go to a reputable book dealer to get your answer from an expert.
Or go to the library and check out some books about collectible books, and learn more about them that way.
Not everything is to be found on the 'net, though someone here may know a link, so let your question stay posted awhile.
Luck--
Reply:These people have new, used and out of print books. If they don't have the one you're looking for they will find it for you and contact you when they have. Then you can purchase with credit card and they will ship it to you.
