Both of the companies {or at least for WCW when Vince Russo came} really underrated the division. It was great in WCW until Russo came in control and decided to destroy it with Oklahoma/Madusa and Daphne winning it in matches that didn't make sense but then again when it came to WWE it became a midcard title in popcorn and restroom rivalries with no one caring, especially when Hornswoggle won it and drove the title to a quiet retirement. It was great at first with high flying matches in both companies when it started in them but then either a Vince McMahon or a Vince Russo came and buried it straight to Guaranteed Midcard Hell! Who really killed it - WCW or WWE?
Who really killed the Cruiserweight Division - WCW or WWE?
The Light-Heavy wieght title was upset when Vince threw it away, so it did horrible things unimangible to the Cruiser Weight Title, with the help of WCW's ratings in 2001.
Reply:WCW. The WWE resurfaced it after doing its Light Heavyweight Division, which started in 1997, years afetr the Cruiserweight title was born.
What WCW did in early 2001, the year WCW went out of business, was bringing in a Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship, and that didn't last.
WCW really killed the Cruiserweight Division. But on a plus side, they had great champions there, Ultimo Dragon, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, Syxx, Gregory Helms, Chavo Guerrero, and even Rey Mysterio.
WWE had there greats in the Cruiserweight Division, such as Kid Kash, Jamie Noble, and Matt Hardy. With just a few former WCW stars on that list as well.
