I'm due April 6th with a girl. WHat do you think of these names? I don't like trendy, popular or misspelled names, by the way.

How are these names?
I like Daphne and Gwendolyn / Gwendolen myself.

Delphine - I don't like

Matilda - I like

Blanca - I prefer Bianca but it's ok

Gwendolyn / Gwendolen - It's ok, I like Gwen

Aviva - I don't like

Serafina / Seraphina - It's ok, I prefer the Serafina spelling better.



The names I said I don't like it is because I don't like the way they sound.

Reply:The only ones I would ever possibly consider are Daphne or Gwendolyn. The others are kinda out there and definitely not trendy.

Delphine= awful



Matilda= cute



Sophronia= good grief that's bad



Petra= sounds like a dog food brand



Blanca= snobby and pretentious



Gwendolyn / Gwendolen= gwen is simple but likeable



Aviva= sounds like a new pharmaceutical..."side effects of aviva may include...."



Serafina / Seraphina= i'm having visions of thumbalina

Reply:Great choices! Distinctive and uncommon, but with history, too.



My favorites are Octavia and Matilda. I think they both work well for a child (nicknames Tavi and Tilly) and a grown woman.



Matilda Delphine would be a great combo.



I think Aviva is very close to the mega-popular Ava, and Blanca sounds a bit dated to my ear.



But really, you can't go wrong with any of the choices.

Reply:The only one I don't really care for is Sophronia, mainly because a lot of people may not know how to say it, and it's just kind of odd.



Matilda is at the top of my girl list, and is my favorite of the ones you've mentioned. If I have a girl, I'm 99% sure she's going to be Matilda.



Daphne and Gwendolyn are also on my list.



I like Delphine a lot because it's different and has a really nice ring to it. Plus, it means something to you, so that's always a plus.

Here's a few more you could add to your list if you like: Kara, Charlette, Hayley, Patrice, Miranda, Melinda, Lena, Leeonie, Lewann, Nadia, Najah, Kira, Kyla.
Reply:Wow these names are all very unique and original but very pretty. I personally would go for Aviva, Blanca or Daphne.

The main reason for suggesting those are because it is important to consider that your child will eventually have to learn to spell her own name and those are the easier ones to learn. Its also worth considering what the names will get shortnened to, by her friends and school mates.
