how does the narratror think that she died?
How deid she really die
was this surprising to you
why would the title of the story be in her name when she isnt even alive when the book takes place
Describe Rebecca in the novel by Daphne Du Maurier?
The narrator doesn't really know how she died. She never questions it because the subject is pretty much off limits with Max. All she knows is that Max is still in love with his first wife who died in an accident and the entire house and staff and possessions still speak her name. She's living with a ghost. And as Max says, even though she's dead, she still won't let him be.
Max was going to shoot her. He'd had enough and finding out she was pregnant was the top of the cake. But Rebecca just started laughing and laughing and when Max was going to leave, because he didn't care, she jumped at him. (actually I'm not sure this is how it happened, it's what I think, what I think I remember...but it's been some years.) She slipped and hit her head and it killed her. But even thought it WAS an accident, he just couldn't thnk straight. He drilled some holes in her boat and sunk her at the bottom of her ship. Rebecca was thought to have drowned (actually, that's what the narrator thinks too cause someone tells her that. I can't remember the exact moment, I believe it was when Rebecca's boat washes to shore and once again the Narrator has the wrong idea as to why Max is upset.).
Was it surprising to me? Hm. I don't know really. I read the book in the 9th grade, which is about 5 or 6 years ago. Daphne duMaurier was the queen of gothic romance. I think some part of me knew that there was something sinister about this all. I remember being done with the book while the rest of the class was reading it chapter at a time lol.
The title is Rebecca because even in death, she still has power over everything. She is a ghost that haunts everyone, a memory that won't fade. In fact, the narrator is never named because it makes Rebecca all the more haunting.

Reply:Sounds like you've got a homework assignment... ;-) Have YOU read the book? Or are you just gathering opinions?
* It's been long enough ago that I don't remember how the narrator THINKS she dies,
* But she really died by a blow to the head.
* It was successfully surprising to me.
* The title of the book is her name because her very personality and presence still affects everyone at Manderley. It is, in a way, more about her than about the second Mrs. DeWinter.
