I don't cook at all, but I recently joined a synagogue which has frequent dairy (vegetarian) pot lucks. That's so that people don't have to worry about whether the food is Kosher, not because these people are committed vegans or anything.
They have frequent (2x/month) dairy potlucks. I don't do any cooking at all except for an occasional microwaved T.V. dinner. Mostly my husband and I eat all of our meals out.
I'm trying to think about what kind of foods I can get in 12 person servings for the pot lucks. This week I brought a vegetarian appetizer platter from Daphne's Greek Cafe. I've already thought of Cheese Enchilada's from the local Mexican place. I can occasionally bring a salad or desert, but I need to think of food I can get for a group at a take out or restaurant.\
P.S. Someone there is already famous for her lasagne and there's almost always homemade Kugel.
I appreciate any suggestions.
What kind of take out should I take to a vegetarian pot luck?
You could bring a nice cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory (if you have one near you) or a pie from Baker's Square (some of their pies are good).
From an Italian restauant, you could bring a family-size pan of pasta with marinara sauce or some pizza with no meat (just cheese or cheese and vegetables).
Some place like Cousins or Jimmy John's have vegetarian subs (with cheese and vegetables on them) and you could just cut them up into smaller sections and make a platter of them.
From a Mexican place you could get some cheese quesadillas or beans and rice (though you'd have to make sure the beans don't have meat or meat products (like bacon or lard)).
If you have a nice gourmet shop near you, they might have some good vegetable salads or pasta salads with vegetables in their deli. Or they might have some dips they make that you could serve with crackers (like nice heart-shaped or round water crackers).
A larger, nice health food store (like Whole Foods) could have some hummus or guacamole or deli salads, too. They also have hot and cold food bars (like salad bars) that might have good vegetarian options.
That's all I can think of right now.
Reply:Vegetable platter with carrot sticks, celery and stuff like that.
Reply:What about a nice rice dish. Or a savory grilled vegetables. like Asian style vegetables or some meatless sushi rolls. I love sushi rolls with rice, seaweed, cucumbers, carrots, and tofu. It is so good. Potato salads usually go good at potlucks. SO do noodle dishes. Surely there is a good Italian, American or Asian restaurant around that can accommodate.
How about a good ole platter of cheeses and crackers and fruits/vegetables.
Reply:I'm not sure on your restrictions, but maybe a nice fruit salad? Maybe with whipped topping?
